Many people assume that chiropractic is only used for back pain, neck pain or headaches. While it is very effective as a natural way to correct problems that cause these symptoms, chiropractic is actually a holistic form of healthcare.

The entire body is regulated by the nervous system. The brain and spinal cord are protected by the skull and bones of the spine (vertebrae). There are nerves that extend off the spinal cord, between the vertebrae, and branch off to every part of the body to regulate function. Every organ and tissue (like the heart, skin, lungs, immune system, etc.) communicates with the brain through these nerves and the spinal cord.

The brain has to know what every body part is doing and then has to be able to tell it to change (or adapt). Sometimes this communication can be interrupted or distorted, usually due to stress on the body. The stressor could be mental, physical or chemical. Some examples of stress include work stress, a sports injury, a baby falling off the bed, a car accident, eating foods we shouldn’t, and not getting needed nutrients.

When our body is over-stressed, an imbalance is created and muscles get tense, pulling on the vertebrae to which they attach. This causes a subluxation, where the bone is stuck and possibly affecting the nerve in that area. This subluxation affects the communication from several organs or systems to the brain and back again. The body can signal that there is a problem. The most common signal is PAIN. But many times the problem is there quite some time before the pain alerts us.

Chiropractors are specially trained to find subluxations and correct them through an "adjustment". Adjustments can help with problems such as headaches, sciatica, acid reflux, colicky baby, fertility issues, bed wetting, decreased energy, and many other symptoms. However, it is important to realize that the goal of the chiropractor is to regulate all body function and bring it back into balance. We treat subluxations, and when the subluxations are gone, the body functions better overall and many times symptoms will disappear.

Please feel free to ask Dr. Berg, Dr. Pulse or Dr. Wakefield if symptoms you are experiencing could be relieved by correcting spinal subluxations.
